Selling out already!

Construction is again underway in Townshend on another Vermont Community Solar project. Over the winter we drummed up enough interest and support that we are happy to announce this project is already selling out! We could not do this without our local community support. This includes our invaluable Soveren Team that go above and beyond to make these projects possible, our participants who are willing to take a chance on our unique program, and the good old fashioned word of mouth buzz that keeps the wheels turning in any small VT business. We are blessed to be able to continue this work for another installation season. There are many irons in the fire and we are continuously working towards a cleaner, more resilient Vermont. If you have any questions about what we are doing at Soveren or any of our up coming projects, please contact us at info(at)soverensolar(dot)com or use the Contact page. You can also call and talk to a real person at (802) 869-2500. Happy May day!  ...

PV America Award

On Monday we were recognized by PV America as having a “Project of Distinction”. This project is the Vermont Community Solar project in Brattleboro, VT: Soveren Community Solar 1. It was recognized for its dedication to local labor and financing, as well as its working relationship with two organizations in Brattleboro, the Vermont Agricultural Business Education Center and Brattleboro Savings & Loan. Without the support of these organizations, this project would not have been possible. Also, thank you to PV America for the chance to bring Vermont Community Solar to a wider audience.                   Read the Press Release here....

Solar Homes Sell Faster & at a Higher Price

Solar Homes Sell Faster & at a Higher Price

In our conversations with people interested in Vermont Community Solar, questions come up about the flexibility of solar credit transfer. First of all, if you move within the Green Mountain Power utility, your solar credit can move with you. But, what if you are selling your house and want to move out of state? This is a question many home owners have. In a delicate housing market this can make or break the solar deal. What we tell people, is that they can sell, donate, give, or even will their solar credits like any other financial asset. But what if you want to sell your panels with your house? This seems like a strange thing when the panels are located off-site. However, just like panels on your roof, they are your “property” to do with as you wish. In fact, houses with solar are selling faster and at a higher price. According to Eric Jay Toll of the The Phoenix Business Journal, “November sales data for resale solar homes hit a median price of nearly $250,000 in November, compared to a non-solar home median of $192,000.” In some cases this covers the original installation cost for a Photovoltaic (PV) system. If the panels are in a Vermont Community Solar system, the cost would be even lower and there would be no extra maintenance that the new home owners would have to take on. This is evidence that people are placing higher value on homes with their own electricity generation. Maybe it is too much to say that solar homes could float the housing market, but they can sure help it along. This trend also speaks to the safety of investing in solar. PV panels should last up to 50 years providing long term value to the owner. PV in tandem with a home or business, increases property values. So, for those of your who are looking to Go Solar in 2015, consider PV panels a safe investment. Even if you are considering moving out of state and/or selling your home in the near future.
